Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that London Knights’
left winger Rick Nash is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending
Sunday December 9, 2001 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven
points in three games.
Nash opened the week with his first hat trick of the season to pace the
Knights to a 5-3 win over the Sarnia Sting December 6 at the Sarnia Sports
and Entertainment Centre. He added an assist in the Knights’ 6-2 loss to the
Toronto St. Michael’s Majors on December 7 and scored a goal and two assists
as the Knights defeated the visiting Erie Otters 6-4 on December 9.
Nash, who leads the Knights with 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 32
games this season, is currently tied for fourth among OHL scorers with Sting
left winger Dusty Jamieson.
Nash, a 17-year-old native of Brampton, is attending the Canadian National
Junior Team Selection Camp which opens today at the Beatrice Ice Gardens at
York University. He was listed as the OHL’s number one prospect for the 2002
NHL Entry Draft in the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Ranking report in
