CHL Player of the Month, and Other Notes

The CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20, 2002 is forward
Jarret Stoll of the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.

Stoll earned both the CHL Player of the Week and Husky WHL Player of the
Week honours by picking up six points in just two games this week, including
four goals and two assists.

On Sunday Stoll, a 2000 draft pick of the Calgary Flames, scored three goals
and one assist in the Ice’s 9-4 win over the Tri-City Americans. The
previous night he had one goal and one assist in Kootenay’s 3-0 victory over
the visiting Kelowna Rockets.

Stoll, 19, is from Yorkton, Saskatchewan and he beat out the other league
nominees – forward Steve Ott of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey
League and forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens
(offensive) and goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers of the Sagueneens
(defensive), from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The CHL Player of the Week is selected from among the three leagues’
nominees and announced in Tuesday’s editions of the CHL Daily News.

There were no games in the WHL on either Monday or Tuesday night.

On Wednesday night, game two of the Hershey Cup CHL All-Stars Series takes
place in Red Deer, Alberta. The OHL Western Conference All-Stars take on the
WHL’s Eastern Conference All-Stars in the second game of the three game CHL
All-Star Series.

The QMJHL Lebel Division All-Stars stopped the OHL East All-Stars 4-2 last
week in Ottawa in the opening game. Wednesday night’s game will be broadcast
live on Rogers Sportsnet nationally and on RDS in Quebec at 7 p.m. (local
time) and 9 p.m. ET.

The Husky WHL Player of the Week is forward Jarret Stoll of the Kootenay
Ice, who is also this week’s CHL Player of the Week.

Stoll, a 19-year-old native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, scored four goals and
two assists in just two games this past week to take the honour. Stoll
recorded a hat trick and added an assist in a 9-4 win over Tri-City Sunday
and had one goal and one assist Saturday in a 3-0 home ice victory over

There were no games in the OHL on either Monday or Tuesday night.

The OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20 is forward Steve Ott
of the Windsor Spitfires.

Ott had four goals and three assists in three games to lead Windsor to three
wins this past week as they challenge for an OHL Western Conference playoff
spot. The 19-year-old native of Summerside, PEI was a first round pick of
the Dallas Stars in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Ott started his big week Jan. 16 by scoring a pair of goals in Windsor’s 3-2
win over Sault Ste. Marie, including the game-winner. He scored the
game-winner again and added another goal Jan. 17 in a win over Brampton and
followed that up with two assists in a 5-1 win over Mississauga Jan. 20.


There are four games in the QMJHL on Tuesday night. Hull is at Montreal,
Moncton is at Shawinigan (4) Drummondville is at Cape Breton and
Victoriaville plays at Sherbrooke.

On Monday night in the QMJHL, Baie-Comeau defeated Rouyn-Noranda 4-1 and
Quebec edged Val-d’Or 5-4 in overtime.

At Baie-Comeau, Kevin Deslauriers had three assists to lead the Drakkar
attack while Joel Perrault and Pascal Pelletier both had one goal and one
assist for the winners. Ghyslain Rousseau made 28 saves for Baie-Comeau
while Mathieu Bastien scored for the losers.

At Quebec, Mario Joly had one goal and three assists for the winners while
Shawn Collymore had two goals and one assist, including the game-winner in
overtime. Denis Berube made 26 saves in the Quebec goal while Pierre Morvan
had two goals for Val-d’Or.

Two members of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens are the QMJHL Players of the Week
for the week ending Jan. 20.

Forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard is the QMJHL’s offensive player of the week
while his teammate goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers is the defensive player of
the week.

Bouchard had one goal and six assists for seven points in three games this
past week. On Jan. 17 he had a short-handed goal and one assist to lead
Chicoutimi to a 5-2 win over Baie-Comeau. The next night he added three
assists in a 5-2 win over Val-D’Or, making him the first player to hit the
100-point plateau this season.

He completed his big week Jan. 20 by picking up a pair of assists in a 3-1
win over Rouyn-Noranda, giving him a league leading 102 points in just 48

Drouin-Deslauriers won three games this past week, posting a 1.67 goals
against average and a save percentage of .950. He stopped 35 shots in the
5-2 win over Baie-Comeau; he made another 30 saves in the 5-2 win over Val-d
‘Or, and he finished the week by making 29 saves in the 3-1 win over

Drouin-Deslauriers is the number one ranked goalie on the NHL Central
Scouting Bureau’s list of eligible goalies for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
