History

McGrath was touted as a top-10 draft pick by some of the scouting services after his tremendous play in the OHL as well as in the 2003 Memorial Cup, but was picked 128th overall.

McGrath scored six playoff goals in 21 contests to help the Rangers win the OHL title and picked up two goals in the Memorial Cup Championship game to help Kitchener win that title.

2006-07: Turned pro. McGrath did not have a good first AHL season registering only 14 points. After going through a long scoring slump, McGrath was assigned to Toledo of the ECHL, with hopes of getting his scoring going. That seemed to have been a good strategy as he scored six goals and 15 points in nine games with the Storm.

2007-08: McGrath appeared in a career-high 78 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) this season. He netted 18 goals and added another 17 assists for the club, finishing +26 on the season.

Talent Analysis
McGrath is a solid sized center has very good hockey sense and scoring instincts. He is a very good skater who has a quick first step and plays a speed game. He is a slick puck handler who has good one-on-one instincts and is effective when on the attack. He displays a good attitude and is a hardworking center that is also responsible defensively, although this is the area that he needs to work on the most. He also has a good wrist shot and has a scorers touch. On the downside he will need to add some bulk in the offseason and become more physical and aggressive.  He still has the hockey sense, passing skills and shot to be a solid offensive player in the AHL. He needs to improve his intensity as well as his game away from the puck.
