History

Kevin Koopman grew up in Hope, B.C.  The Ottawa Senators selected him 181st overall in the 6th round of the 2006 NHL draft.  He is a product of the KIJHL, an international junior B league playing in BC.

2004-05: Koopman skated in 41 games with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, tallying 18 points and 45 penalty minutes.  In the playoffs, he picked up an additional 9 points in 17 games.

2005-06: Koopman’s role with the Nitehawks increased and he became more of an offensive-minded defenseman scoring at more than a point-per-game pace.  In 38 games, he notched 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points, best on his team and third overall in the league among defensemen.  Six of his 14 goals came on the powerplay.  He also racked up 64 penalty minutes.  In the playoffs, he continued to produce at nearly a point-per-game, scoring 7 goals and 13 points in 15 games, good for second on the team.

2006-07: Moving on to the BCHL, Koopman played a limited role with Vernon.  In 45 contests, he scored 8 points while racking up 97 penalty minutes.  His only goal of the season was scored on the power-play.
