History

Ryan Oulahen who was playing in his rookie season with the Brampton Battalion was selected with the 164th pick overall in 2003.

The smooth-skating center had a good first year in the OHL where he collected 21 goals and 43 point in 61 games. Playing behind another NHL draftee, Kamil Kreps, Oulahen didn´t get as much attention from the scouts. But as the season went on Oulahen made a name for himself by playing a sound two-way game.

Oulahen has rebounded in 2004-05, putting up 34 points in 43 games, nearly matching last year’s total already. But what scouts like is that he’s doing this while going up against some of the best players in the OHL. Oulahen is consistently matched up against the other team’s best line and he consistently wins the battles. He’s a big kid who’s fleet afoot and strong on his skates.

Talent Analysis
Oulahen is a very good skater who has quick feet and great acceleration. He works hard and is very aware of his defensive duties as a center. He possesses solid hands and is a capable scorer. He sees the ice well and creates offense. Primarily a defensive forward Oulahen is often used in odd-man situations, killing penalties or setting up the power play.
